Never except food or drink off them. They had potions and brews of all hues. All I remember was a stair case going up and up and round and round. I ended up on the roof of the Colombia Hotel with a wizard with stars in his beard and he told me, when you die, according to how you’ve lived your life. You re-enact your happiest or saddest moments over and over for eternity. THE BIG TIME. Plastic Head 04:39
Everything belongs to me, I’m flying round the world In the blink of an eyelash keeps me moving in first class I see my plastic head, passing me buy, floating on high Your plastic shades go back in time Chants Your plastic plastic head Oh are we forsaken Driving in black cars walking on thin ice. Hits you like a train hits you for hours White powder in the air compound my despair in hotel bars You talk in plastic shade of rhyme Chants Your plastic plastic head So are we forsaken Oh Tracy Star Has it gone too far when the world knows who you are? Every time you walk on water they get so mystified by it all Oh Tracy Star Your plastic your plastic plastic head You talk in plastic shades of rhyme I’m not here I’m not there See I did’nt start the show with ladies and gentlemen or guys. No hooks now. I’m there I’m not here I’m on my own You’re on your own

But I keep on harking back to that thing about solidarity Cause when you started out like that and been together like that Then it’s the solidarity that is the bond because if you don’t have that your own you own More money, more sex, they suck you till you are dry You need to move on Open the Escape Hatch, we are near break out Always crashing around in the dark Then I had a break down It was illuminating Think i’ll stop Think i’ll start Think i’ll stop Time moves on, time moves on Move on time, move on time I’ve got too much time on my hands. No band, I’m in limbo I’ve got to eat I can’t sleep. Well this isn’t gonna make you sleep is it. I best not. I’ll have a bit. Have it all. How much? £300. £300 You can afford it. No I can’t. No I can’t I need to write a song. You can’t write a song. You’re too mental. Too depressed I need this. Pure bliss I need to write this down so I can remember what it feels like. I AM A SHINING TORCH OF MUSICAL LIGHT. I CAN TOUCH THE ABYSS. I’m not asleep am I? No your awake and it’s a nightmare. repeat Open the escape hatch. I am near breaking Silently waiting here in the dark Think I had a breakdown Think i’ll stop Think i’ll start Think i’ll stop

Time stood still Time stood still Posters of Ethereal beings, so esoteric, so alien. Well alien to here. Practise the art of Marcelle Marceau with no fear of retribution. The thinnest man I’d ever seen. He smoked cannabis through a coke can. Thought I was beneath him, too loud, too female. I irritated him and I liked that. Musicians proper musicians. The vocals were always the last thing to go down, usually about 5 am. I would be a bit tipsy. Well completely and utterly wrecked. The smoke bomb. Time stood still... as a mushroom cloud of red hung. Then slowly descended mixing with the foam turning everyone it touched bright pink. This is the Rise and Fall of a Northern Star And I found caves…and inside them caves I found remnants of spells, burnt ashes, herbs, skin and entrails. This was definitely a place where magic was still practised, full of symbols and keys to other dimensions. I soberly stuck to that gargoyle like glue We gated quantised and compressed the music. Re styled. Re mixed. Re jigged. I got new frocks, new shoes. New hair do’s. New name too. I never liked those people. They were snide. Never looked me fully in the eye. The music business is a filthy business. Dear Miss Starr We are writing to inform you of the position of our client, here in after referred to as the record. company, in relation to the artist, here in after referred to as Tracy Starr. It is with deep regret we inform you we are unable to renew the option or commit to further releases blah blah. It’s the white pills for in shakes, the blue ones to keep you calm and the Big fat sleepers to block out the screamers. In there I had time to ponder. In There, there is an odd calmness to hitting rock bottom. That stomach churning feeling of falling into the abyss stops because you’re sat in it, right up to your neck.

When is Time to Bow out? When is it time to pack it in? When should a wanna be rock and roll star end in a bargain bin? I tried to get back to London but everybody kicked me out! Moondog 06:16
In a small cluttered room above a chip shop in Harperhay North Manchester a star was born It’s five AM in a cocktail bar. By your face we didn’t get very far I’m going home, I’m too tired and stoned Red eyes, red witch, red eyes, red witch Just a girl who can’t say no, Just a girl who can’t say no Holding on to a falling star, I left a trail in the park That was where my mind was caved in. In the middle of singing something Red eyed, red witch, red eyes, red witch Just a girl who can’t say no. Just a girl who can’t say no Blue light flashed like a ball of flames, I can’t tell them my first name I could the line going in, my hand was stinging Do you think you can count to 5 for honey Do you think you can open your eyes for me Everything was shaking starting to fall Hit me like train hit me for hours I travelled through a wire saw myself on the floor if this is how it is, I don’t want anymore Red eyes, red witch, you drunk enough you stupid bitch Just a girl who can’t say no, Just a girl who can’t say no I’m going home

about

Drawing influences from a dense thicket of Dub, electro, glam, prog and psychedelia this fascinating body of work avoids convenient categorization whilst tracking the weird, wonderful and at times catastrophic adventures of protagonist and ‘wanna’ be Tracy Star. Jah Wobbles atmospheric bass pulsing throughout and Smiths legend Craig Gannon (Smiths) and Nick McCabe (The Verves) idiosyncratic guitars augment this distinctive and eerie work. Spoken word also from John Cooper Clarke and Mike Joyce (The Smiths)

Reviews/Quotes:

Mojo 4****
'Psychedelic glamscapes and experimental dub, pivoted by Jah Wobble's careering bass and Craig Gannon's and Nick McCabe's spiralling by guitars, Grundy's beguiling voice creates a blissful altered state throughout'.

Classic Pop 4****
'Inspired , reminds us of the Dub influence the permeated Primal Screams Screamadelica. The infectious and raucous soundtrack is all underlined with Mancunian pride'

Louder Than War 5*****
‘This album is as dark and dangerous a trip as you could possibly wish for’
